this man lost part of his ear when he was attacked by other men. violence was - and undoubtedly still is - a huge problem in the young south africa. in the days of transition in 1992 partly violence was political motivated, but in most cases it was not possible to distinguish between a pure criminal act and a political motive. the bottom line is, there was always a victim and a perpetrator and it didn´t matter that much what the motive really was.

business men in new york city on a cold winter afternoon.
in 1990 new york became my home for 8 months. i was working as an assistant photographer. getting my first own assignments amidst so many talented photographers had been rewarding. i instantly fell in love with this wonderful city, full of vitality and groove. everybody here seemed to strive for something bigger, become famous or rich or just have lots of fun.
